1874 St Paul's Lutheran Church Although the first Lutheran family
settled in this vicinity in 1800, it wasn't until 30 years later the Reverend
John William Heim occasionally visited home and village schoolhouse. In 1844 a
dozen Lutherans united in organizing what is now our congregation and invited
the Reverend Levi T. Williams of Petersburg (now Duncannon) to preach in English
and become the first regular pastor. In 1846 the Union Church Building [2nd
& Walnut] was built and used jointly by Lutherans, Reformeds and
Presbyterians. By 1873 the Presbyterians purchased the Lutherans share of the
Union Church Building for $2,380 and the presnt church [St. Paul's] was
dedicated in 1874.
