Table-the base of this museum case was originally a table made about 1820 by Balthazer Lesh Jr. (son of Balthzaer Sr., a soldier of the American Revolution) for his daughter, Catherine Lesh Smith.

Records the birth of Eve Smith (Leiby), daughter of John Smith and Catherine Lesch on Oct. 23, 1810 in Bethel Twp., Berks Co. Baptized by Rev. Hendel. Sponsors were  Balzer Lesh and wife Salome (who were the baby’s grandparents). This taufschein was printed in Hanover, Pa 1826

Educated in Newport schools, New Bloomfield Academy and the Academy at Academia, Pa. School teacher in Juniata Twp. Contractor. Merchant. Postmaster at Newport 1888. Station agent at Newport P.R.R. Promoter and manager Perry Electric Light Co. (first light company in Newport). Lumber merchant. Newport Masonic Lodge and past master of the same. Member Reformed church. Burgess of Newport. Married Susan Holman. Children: Charles, Laure Leiby VanDyke, Samuel and Fannie Leiby Keesberry. Died at Newport 1907 and buried in Newport Cemetery.
