“My family surname was Myers. We started our search at The Perry Historians Library, (I highly recommend them as a great starting place). They helped lead me to St. Johns Cemetery where I found my Myers family. My GGGGrandfather Philip Myers, Sr. buried. He at this point in time is still my BRICKWALL, as I cannot get back any further on his side. His tombstone has the spelling Meyers Sr on it. PA.  He married MARY MAGDALENA SHUEY/SCHUY/SCHUEY, daughter of CHRISTIAN SHUEY/SCHUY/SCHUEY and MAGDELENA EDRIS.  She was born September 11, 1787, and died June 10, 1864 in Newport , Perry Co. PA.

She is buried St. John’s Lutheran Reformed Churchyard He married (2) CATHERINE LONG August 3, 1851, daughter of JOHN LONG and ELIZABETH HARMON.  She was born August 25, 1826 in Perry Valley, and died February 14, 1906, buried St. John’s Lutheran Reformed Churchyard.

Mrs. Catherine (Long) 1826- 1906 [ Myers Philip Myers’ 2nd wife]
   Widow of Philip Myers, died last evening at 5:40 o'clock, at her home at this place, having been in failing health for one year.  She was born in Perry Valley August 24, 1826.  Her husband died December 27, 1865.  She was the mother of nine children, the following of whom are living:  Miss Jennie Myers, Clyde, Ohio; Miss Annie Myers, Liverpool; Mrs. George Foley, Shamokin; Levi yers, Bellevue, Ohio; Daniel Myers, Millerstown; Mrs. Malinda Crosley and William Myers, this place.  She also leaves three step-children, who are Mrs. John Hartzell, East Newport; Mrs. George Miller, Chicago; and Mrs. Amos Rhoades, Nanticoke.  She had 36 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Adam Castetter, Perry Valley, and Mrs. Simon Haines, Briston, Ind., are her surviving sisters.  The funeral service will be conducted at the house on Saturday at 10 a.m., by her pastor, Rev. F. L. Kerr, she having been a member of the Reformed church from childhood.  The interment will be at Markelsville.

Perry Co. Juniata Twp., Pennsylvania, and died February 4, 1892.  He married (2) MARY ELLEN LEONARD July 2, 1893, daughter of JOHN LEONARD and RACHAEL BITTLE.  She was born February 18, 1844, and died 1922.

Obit:
Joseph F. Bealor formerly of Markelsville, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Shatto, Morrisville, PA, Tuesday at 8:30 PM having been in infirm health for a year or more, although able to make a trip to Illinois to visit relatives and friends, during the summer of 1923. He had a stroke five years ago and complications, including pneumonia, were the direct cause of his death. He was 79 years old, last Jan. 30th. He was married twice, both wives being named Mary Leonard. His first wife died 33 years ago, since when he had made his home with his children all of who were by his first marriage, including Mr. Myrtle Buchanan, Minnesota, deceased; Mrs. Shatto;  W.O. Bealor, Harrisburg; E.A. Mifflin; L. S., Farmer City, IL; John, Burr, Minn.; Joseph, Jr., Indiana; Mrs. Loomis, Darlington, Lake Mills, Wi; Mrs. James Boyer, Illinois, Mrs. Anna Boggs, North Dakota. Thirty-six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also survive; Mrs. John Miller, Sixth Street, Newport, is a sister. Funeral Services will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Newport, Saturday at 3 P.M. with internment at Newport Cemetery." Joseph F. weighed about 200 lbs. and was about 5'5" tall. Had black hair and blue eyes.

HENRY K MYERS (son of JOHN MYERS and ELIZABETH KEISER) was born February 10, 1841 in Perry Co.Pa., and died February 26, 1900 in Edinburg, IN.  He married HARRIET ELIZABETH SHIPMAN May 19, 1869 in Fishers Ferry, Pa., daughter of DAVID
SHIPMAN and ELIZA HENDERSHOT.  She was born January 10, 1849 in Fishers Ferry, Pa., and died 1927 in Quincy, IL..

Notes from obituary of Henry KEISER MYERS: left his father's farm ca.1856 when sent to school in Marleville [Markelsville] and later to McAllister Academy, teaching during the winter. Enlisted Sept.21, 1861, Co. H (Co. L in another article), 9th Reg., PA Cavalry. Promoted to 1st Lieut., Co. I, May 27, 1863. Later promoted to Captain but the War had ended before the promotion went through. He served in all of the campaigns of the Army of the Cumberland, and commanded a company in Sherman's "March to the Sea." He
was captured and sent to Libby prison. Prior to his service, he began the study of medicine. After the War he resumed studies in the office of Dr. Henry McCaslin, Halifax, PA. He attended his 1st course of lectures in Burlington, VT, and 2nd course at Univ. of Maryland, graduating Mar. 9, 1867. [Information in Rest Haven Cemetery record book, Edinburg, IN, states he was a graduate of Temple Univ.

Henry KEISER MYERS first located at York, PA, then to Augusta, PA, and after 3 years to Lykens, PA, practicing there until 1889; to Chambersburg, PA for 1year, and in 1890 moved to Edinburg, IN. In Lykens he was appointed postmaster under President Cleveland's first administration. From an article that appeared in Newport, PA newspaper, n.d.: when Dr. Myers returned from
Indiana to visit..."calling upon his relatives and friends. He is a cousin of J.M. and Alvin SMITH and Mrs. John L. MILLER...He is a son of John MYERS, who kept a hotel at the canal bridge, Newport....He was born in Juniata Township on the farm now owned by Dr. H.O.ORRIS...." [This trip may have been in 1893.]
