Bernhard BEHLER Birth: ABT. 1735 in Germany Death: 1806 in Berks County, Pa. Marriage 1 ELIZABETH b: ABT. 1738.  They had ten children. Marks BEHLER ( BEALOR) was born 1760 in Berks Co. Marks and his family were the first BEALORS in Markelville.

MARCUS [MARK] BEALOR was the son of Bernhard (Boehler) Bealor b: 1735 in Germany. Marcus was born 9 JAN 1760, and died 19 APR 1844 in Perry County, PA. He married Marie Elizabeth Keiser b: 19 JUL 1768 in Berks County, PA. They were married: 28 JUN 1789 in Brecknock, Berks, Pa

The actual beginning of the St. John's cemetery was the burial of Sarah Boehler, who died Aug. 6, 1810, aged  8 years, 8 months, and 26 days. Her parents were Mark and Maria Elisabetha (Keiser) Boehler, who buried her at the eastern boundary-line of their farm. The Boehlers were natives of Brecknock Twp., Berks Co. and had purchased the farm from Adam Merckel, on Aug. 29, 1804. 

A tract of land was warranted on Apr 22, 1763, by Michael Marshall, a “squatter” and “included his improvement”, on Big Buffalo Creek, in Rye Twp., Cumberland Co. There was a survey of 204 ¼ acres, on both sides of the creek, and it was Patented to Michael Marshall, in 1790, under name, “Sociability”. On June 24, 1790, Michael Marshall sold the tract to Dr. Daniel Fachnestock, of Lancaster Co. and York Co.Daniel Fahnestock conveyed his “Sociability” tract to Adam Merckel, who, later, conveyed it to Mark Boehler, and removed to Pleasant Valley, in present Center Twp

On Aug. 7, 1840, a Deed was given, by Mark Boehler (Bealor) and wife, to Philip Myers, Samuel Lupfer and William Bosserman, “trustees of a religious society, in Juniata Twp., and parts adjacent, composed of Lutherns and Prebyterians, united, now, about erecting themselves, into a congregation”, for two and one-half perches over one-half acre, for consideration of one dollar.

JOHN (Johannes) BEALOR was the son of Marcus (Marks) Bealor and Marie Elizabth Keiser. His brother was Joseph Bealor. He was born 18 MAR 1792 in Berks County, PA, and died.16 MAR 1855 in Mannsville, Perry County, PA. On 24 June 1817 John married Catherine Schmidt b: 5 AUG 1795. Their son, Benjamin F. Bealor would one day become the owner of Marcus Bealor's farm in present day Markelville.

GENERATION 2

Benjamin F. BEALOR was the son of John (Johannes) Bealor and  Catherine Schmidt.  He was born 13 FEB 1825 in Perry County, and died  28 AUG 1897. Benjamin married Mary Elizabeth Weibly on 4 OCT 1853.  Mary Elizabeth Bealor died 29 SEP 1895 in Philadelphia  of Cancer. Benjamin F. Bealor would one day become the owner of Marcus Bealor's farm in present day Markelville .In 1859, Benj. F. Bealor, grandson of Mark Bealor, was the owner of the homestead. He sold a plot, west of the St. John's Church, to the congregations. Their son, John Weibley Bealor was born 1853  in Markelville. He was educated in the locals school and graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons (now Univ. Maryland. He located at Shamokin, PA where he practised medicine unitl his death in 1914.

David Rittenhouse Porter BEALOR 1826-1893 (son of John (Johannes) Bealor and Catherine Schmidt). David married Nancy Gillsom Thompson in 1852 in Perrysville, PA. They had seven chiildren:

Phillip BEALOR (son of JOSEPH BEALOR & ELIZABETH MYERS) was born August 15,  1836, and died March 20, 1892.  He married  MARGARET GANTT October 4, 1859.  She was born December 18, 1836, and died December 18, 1912.

Joseph F. BEALOR (son of JOSEPH BEALOR & ELIZABETH MYERS) was born January 30, 1845, and died 1924 in Morrisville,PA. He married (1) MARY ANN LEONARD December 26, 1866, daughter of J. LEONARD and MARGARET HENCH.  She was born October 5, 1843 in Perry Co. Juniata Twp., Pennsylvania, and died February 4, 1892. He married (2) MARY ELLEN LEONARD July 2, 1893, daughter of JOHN LEONARD and RACHAEL BITTLE.  She was born February 18, 1844, and died 1922. Married: 2 JUL 1893 in the parsonage of the Incarnation Reformed Church by Rev. W.R.H. Deatrich.

Children of JOSEPH BEALOR and MARY LEONARD are:

  1. SALOME BEALOR lived in Wisconson
  2. Anna BEALOR Anna married Frank Peter Bobst in 1907 in Canby, MN and they lived there until Spring and then took the train to Sturgis, SD. They bought a wagon and traveled to Fairpoint, SD, this took three days with four cows behind the wagon. Here Frank took a government homestead in Meade County, SD.

1870 Census shows: John P. Latchford; age 15; born in PA and Margaret Bealor; age 20; born in PA living in Joseph Bealor's home.Now MARGARET MATILDA BEALOR, b. December 1849, Markelsville, Pa; d. May 192, was the sister of Jospeph F. Bealor. So Margaret must have been an aunt (Aunt Tillie) of Joseph F. Bealor. Margaret married JOHN L. MILLER, February 16, 1877.

Joseph F. weighed about 200 lbs. and was about 5'5" tall. Had black hair and blue eyes.


Obit:
"Joseph F. Bealor, formerly of Markelville, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Shatto, Morrisville, PA, Tuesday at 8:30 pm having been in infirm health for a year or more, altho able to make a trip to Illinois to visit relatives and friends, during the summer of 1923. He had a stroke five years ago and complications, including pneumonia, were the direct cause of his death. He was 79 years old, last Jan. 30th. He was married twice, both wives being named Mary Leonard. His first wife died 33 years ago, since when he had made his home with his children all of who were by his first marriage, including Mr. Myrtle Buchanan, Minnesota, deceased; Mrs. Shatto; W.O. Bealor, Harrisburg; E.A. Mifflin; L. S., Farmer City, IL; John, Burr, Minn.; Joseph, Jr., Indiana; Mrs. Loomis, Darlington, Lake Mills, Wi; Mrs. James Boyer, Illinois, Mrs. Anna Boggs, North Dakota. Thirty-six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also survive; Mrs. John Miller, Sixth Street, Newport, is a sister. Funeral Services will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Newport, Saturday at 3 p.m. with internment at Newport Cemetery."

David Grant Bealor (son of David Rittenhouse Porter Bealor and Nancy Gillson Thompson) was born 1857 and died in 1927. He married Elizabeth Bashore who was born in 1872 and died in 1960. Elizabeth is buried in St. John's. Their children were:

Joseph Brubaker BEALOR (son of Joseph F. Bealor) Birth: 25 JAN 1877 in Perry Co. Pa. Death: 13 MAR 1963 in Community Hospital - Laporte, Indiana Burial: eSalem cemetery - St. Rd. 4 LaPorte, IN. Joseph Brubaker.  Bealor was about 5'5" tall had black hair and blue eyes. Marriage 1 Margaret Ellen KINGSBOROUGH b: 29 DEC 1872 in Ickesburg, Pa. Married: 4 FEB 1897 in DeLand, IL. They had 11 children, all born in Deland, Il.

John BEALOR, son of Joseph F. Bealor, was born 23 Jan, 1881in Markelsville, Perry Co. He died 17 Oct 1961. He  married  Elizabeth Engebretson in 1917  Canby or Burr, MN. 

John & Elizabeth did not have any children but they had a beloved white poodle named Skeezix.

The marriage record from St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Canby indicated that John was born
in Marklesville, Perry Co., PA. He was manager of Van Dusen or Peavey elevator in Burr for about 30 years.

Page 572 (from the history of Florida Township)" John Bealor was another man whose life was largely spent in Burr as manager of the Van Dusen or Peavey elevator for thirty years. He was born January 23, 1881 in Pennsylvania and came to Burr as a young man. He married Eliza Engebretson, daughter of Gulbrand Engebretson of Hammer Twp. (YMCO.) on October 27, 1917.

"While searching in Canby News microfilm for 1910-1913 I found in Briefs from Burr "John Bealor was seen going east Sunday: Vat is?" later "J.M. Bealor denies having been down east" Later "John Bealor returned from a trip to PA" later J. Bealor had the misfortune of breaking the seat on the pulversire: this made me feel that people had fun joking with John.."

"Canby News for 11-2-1917" - The marriage of Miss Lizzie Engebretson and Mr. John Bealor of Burr were married in st stephen's parsonage on Oct. 27, 1917. "The nuptial knot was tied by the pastor, Rev. Paul Moen, and the bride was attended by the groom's niece Miss Gladys Darlington of Mill City, Wis., who has been a Canby visitor for the past 4 weeks. Mr. Henry Engebretson, the bride's brother was best man. Following the ceremony, a finely appointed wedding dinner was served at the residence of the bride's sister, Mrs. Wm Kottler, covers being laid for 12 or 14. Among those present were Mr. & Mrs. John Bealor, Mr. & Mrs. Gulbrand Engebretson (bride's parents), Mr. & Mrs. Hans engebretson (bride's brother) and daughter Marguerite, Mr. & Mrs. George Sorby (bride's sister & husband) the hostess and her family. The bride was becomingly attired in white silk and carried bride's roses: the groom wore a suit of dark blue. After dinner the newlyweds went to the home of the bride's parents, Mr. & Mrs. G. Engebretson and the following morning, Sunday, went to Burr, where the happy couple have rented a house and gone to housekeeping. The bride is a Canby product, having been born and reared here, and is the daughter of G. Engebretson, while the groom is the popular grain buyer at the Burr Elevator, a position he has occupied for the past 4 years.

Generation 4

Carlton Alanson Bealor Sr. (son of David Grant Bealor and Elizabeth Bashore) was born in 1900 and died in 1996  in Brookline Nursing Home, Mifflintown, PA and is buried in Centre Presbyterian Cemetery, Loysville, PA. He married Orpha Liggett who was born in 1903. They had two children:  Carlton A. Bealor Jr. , born 1930, and ??. CarltonJr. now lives in duncannon.

Being the last of the Bealors, Carlton acquired remaining of the Bealor estate. Apparently the tract of land across the road was sold prior to 1917 to the Millers who sold to Wm H. Lenig. In 1918 Lenig built the present residence in 1918. Carlton Sr. served in WW II. Carlton was an architect; during the depression he kept his staff employed by designing the current house and a children's playhouse on the property.

Carton sold the property to the current owners, Alan McGinte about 1980. His son Carlton Jr. now lives in Duncannon.
