Were James Elias, Samuel J. and Henry Campbell homesteaders?. According to the Homestead Act of 1862 a homesteader had only to be the head of a household and at least 21 years of age to claim a 160 acre parcel of land. The only cost was the filing charge of $18.

Was Henry Campbell the father and James and Samuel his sons? Was Susan the wife of Henry?

Were Henry N. and Sylvester CAMPBELL  sons of Henry's?

Who was Roy Campbell's father?

Roy Campbell was born in 1913 at the farm below Markelsville. He was one of eight children.  "Friends call Campbell one of Markelsville's esteemed residents." Roy has lived in the area all his life In 1940 he bought the 100 acre farm (part of Pretty Meadow) bordering the north side of Big Buffalo Creek. There he and his wife, Annie, raised their three children: Oscar, Wayne and Mary Ann.

Roy attended the Markelsville School up to eight grade. In 1927, he left school because there was no transportation into Newport where the higher grades were schooled. The summer before he and Annie married he attended the Eamsway P. School in East St. Louis, MO.

He helped his father on the farm then worked for Wentzel's Mills,  the Snap On Tool factory and Visco in Lewistown before  landing a job with the railroad in 1947. He retired as an air brake mechanic. After he retired he spent his time on the 40 acres he owned on Shull Hill Road that he timbered, cut and sold for firewood.
