At Bull Hill Cemetery there is a grave marked: LATCHFORD, c/o Peter & Mollie: George L. 7 May 1842 0-11-12 John L. 1 Jul 1851 6-4-9

Peter Latchford (1795-1879) married a girl named Molly (1804-1876), who was nine years younger than himself. It appears they had seven children:

  1. Hannah was born 1826
  2. Richard was born before 1830
  3. Philip L. was born 1832
  4. James P. was born 1835
  5. Thomas J. was born about 1840
  6. George L. was born 1842 and died 11 days later
  7. John L. was born 1845 and died in 1851

1830 census for Perry Co. shows: Peter and Richard Latchford, both of Juniata Twp.

1. Hannah Latchford (1826 -1871) married Eleazar Bitner about 1860. They had a son, Isaac Leonard  Bitner born 1862. Hannah died at the age of 35 leaving Eleazar a widower with a nine year old son. Young Isaac died two years later in 1873.

2. Richard Latchford (~1830 - ??) married a girl named Susanna, who was born in 1830. Did they have a son, John P., born in 1855? Susanna died in 1861 at the age of 31 years. Did John P. go live with Joseph Bealor?

3. Philip Leonard Latchford (1832-1916) married "Lizzie" (Elizabeth E. Orwan), born 1832. They did have two daughters, who died young: Sylvia was born in 1867 and Annie was born April 1869. Sylvia died in September 1869. Little Annie died in 1873. It is not known if they had any other children. H. H. Hain write, on page 823, "Dr. Orwan Luther Latchford, was born at Markelville, March 15, 1874. He attended public schools and Prof. W. E. Baher's select school at Eschol from 1890 to 1893...." Dr. Latchford entered the drug business and went on to medical school.

4. James P. Latchford (1835-1901) married Catharine Baker (1835-1917). It may be that Peter was their son. James was a private in 208th Regiment, Co. G during the Civil War. There is a Peter Latchford shown in the 1870 census.

5. Thomas J. Latchford ( abt 1840 - ??) married a girl named Sarah (1842-1866) They had a son, Charles, born 1862 and died two years later in July 1964. On 5 September, 1964 Thomas J was mustered in 208th Regiment, Company G, Perry County. He came home June 1865. Sarah died in 1866 at the young age of 24 years. Thomas just disappears...
