ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTH REGIMENT
In the beginning of November 1861, the regiment contained eleven
hundred and thirty-five officers and men. Their first battle was at
Bottom's Bridge and then Savage Station. They were followed by Fair
Oaks, Allen's Farm, Peninsula, Malvern Hill and Harrison's Landing
in Va. Dec. 28th they sailed for Beaufort S.C.
They participated in the attempt at capturing Charleston and Morris
Island. At the end of July they were posted as guards along the
railroad line from Jacksonville to Baldwin Fla. After a month went
to Alexandria Va. on the south side of the Potomac.
The veterans joined in the assult of Petersburg, on the 3rd and 4th
of Apr. after which they did guard duty until the 25th of August
when it was mustered out of service.

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THIRD REGIMENT, PERRY CO. PA.
This regiment was raised in the summer of 1862 and organized at
Camp Curtin, Harrisbrug Pa.
Left Harrisburg 19 Aug for Va. In September were armed with
Springfield muskets. Arrived at Antietam on the 18th too late for
the battle and made camp at Sharpsburg Md till late October.
At the battle of Fredericksburg on 13 Dec. engaged the enemy.
The spring campaign of 1863 on the 27 Apr moved to Chancellorsville
and was put in a position on the extreme left towards Rappahannock.
Took part in fighting around Chancellor House. They then marched
north and on the 16th were transported to Harrisburg where they
were mustered out between the 21 to 26 of May 1863.

ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY NINTH REGIMENT, BUCKTAIL BRIGADE
The one hundred and forty ninth regiment was the first raised on
the name and fame of the original Bucktail Regiment and was
composed of Perry and Mifflin Co. men skilled in the use of the
rifle and wore the bucktail as did the men whose name they adopted.
The regiment remained at the capitol till Feb 1863 when it joined
General Burnside's army and went into camp at While Oak Church,
where it was assigned to duty in the First Army Corps, under
command of Colonel Stone.
On the 3 and 4 May were under fire at Chancellorsville. Their next
engagement was 31 Jun at Gettysburg where they repelled repeated
attacks and maintained their position until the retreat of the
whole line. Afterwards they were placed in reserve at Cemetery
Hill. On the 2nd they assisted the Second Corps. The regiment
remained on the front line and was relieved in the morning of the
3rd. The losses in the three days of battle were 205 killed or
wounded and 131 missing.
On the 4 May 1864, entered the Wilderness where they engaged the
enemy. After 2 charges they were compelled to fall back. Their loss
was 113 killed and wounded and 93 taken prisoners. On the 8th
fought at Laurel Hill, on the 12th Spottsylvania Court House. After
continued engagments with the enemy they were sent to guard
prisoners at Elmira N.Y. and were mustered out 24 Jun 1865.

ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SECOND REGIMENT, SEVENTEENTH CAVALRY, PERRY COUNTY
PENNSYLVANIA
The one hundred and sixty second regiment, known as the Seventeenth
Cavalry was recruited in 1862, and met in Harrisburg. On the 5 Jan
1863 at Stafford Court House they became part of the Second Brigade
of the First Cavalry Division. The cavalry were very efficient at
holding at thwarting the movements of the the enemy both at
Rappahannock and Gettysburg.
During the winter most remained at picket durt except for a
detachment under General Kilpatrick that raided Richmond.
In 1864 the Seventeenth were under General Sheridan and wintered
near Winchester on picket duty. Mustered out with a farewell speech
detailing their courage and steadfastness.

TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTH REGIMENT, PERRY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA
The two hundredth and eighth regiment organized at Camp Curtin,
Harrisbrug Pa. the 12 Sep 1864. On the 27th of Nov it joined the
Army of the Potomac and was assigned to the First Brigade, Third
Division of the Ninth Corps under the command of General Hartranft.
On the 25th of March helped capture Fort Steadman. From the 27 Mar
to 2 Apr were constantly moving, till the assult on Petersburg at
which 48 were killed or wounded. On the ninth of April arrived at
Nottoway Court house where they remained till the 20th. At
Alexandria the 208 were mustered out of service.

Jan Sat 7, 1865 - A rough day and this morn i helped to guard our
arces and this afternoon i worte a leter to my wife and i detailed

CIVIL WAR, FORTY-SEVENTH REGIMENT, PERRY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA
The regiment was recruited Aug 1861 and was organized 1 Sep at Camp
Curtin, Harrisburg, under Colonel Tilghman H. Good. The companies
were mustered in at various dates. On 1 Sep the regiment was
stationed at Kalorama Heights, Washington D.C.
On the 11 Oct took part of the review by General McClellan at
Bailey's Cross Roads.
Under orders of General Brannan proceded to Key West Fla, arriving
4 Feb. and then moved to Hilton Head S.C. in late June. and
Beaufort S.C. in early July. By October was moved back to Fla.
Late in October they took part in the movement to Pocotaligo S.C.
to break the Charleston and Savannah Railroad, losing 134 men
killed or wounded.
In Nov garrisoned two forts in Fla and remained till Feb 1864.
On the 25th was assigned to the Second Brigade of General Emory's
division of Franklin's Corps in the army of General Banks.
The 8 Apr took part in the battle of Sabine Cross-Roads La. and
lost about 60 men. At Plesant Hill they took prisoners and several
pieces of artillery. Arrived Alexandria on the 25 Apr. 1864 having
marched 8 hundred miles and losing 200 men by battle and sickness.
They became part of the Army of Shenandoah under command of General
P.H. Sheridan, and took part in the battle of Opequan (or
Winchester) on 19 Sep., Fisher's Hill, the 21 Sep and Cedar Creek
the 19 Oct.lossing 176 men killed, wounded or missing.
In the beginning of spring 1865 it moved the 4 Apr to Washington
D.C. taking part in the grand review of 23 & 24 May. Afterward
moved to Charleston S.C. until 3 Jan 1866 and then embarked for New
York and proceeded to Philadelphia and at Camp Cadwalader was
mustered out the 9 Jan after a tour of duty of four and a half
years. The two companies from Perry County were recruited at
Bloomfield and Newport.

NINTY-SECOND REGIMENT, NINTH CAVALRY, PERRY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA

The regiment met at Camp Cameron, Harrisburg in the fall of 1861,
under command fo Colonel Edward G. Williams of Harrisburg. The 20
th of Nov went by rail to Pittsburgh, then down the Ohio River by
steamboat to Jeffersonville Ind. and camped. Moved into Ky. and
then down to Tenn. On the 4th May 1862, Major Jordan's battalion
fought Morgan's forces, taking 291 prisoners. The battalion fought
Morgan's froces again at Spring Creek on the 14 May. and another
battle on the 6 Jun at Moore's Hill Ky. On the 9 Jul engaged the
enemy at Tompkinsville Ky. loosing 24 men killed and wounded and 19
taken prisoner.
On the 8 Oct a battle was fought at Perrysville Ky. where 37 was
killed or wounded. The ninth was ordered ot Louisville where horses
were furnished to those who had been dismounted, numbering half the
regiment. The 1 Jan fought cavalry at the Virginia and Tennessee
Railroad, capturing over 100 prisoners burning the railway bridge,
loosing 31 killed or wounded.
Retreating they reached Nicholasville, Ky on the 13 Jan 1863,
remounted in Louisville, and proceeded to Franklin Tenn. engaging
a brigade on the 9th of Feb. On the 4 Mar fought a 5 hour battle
about 4 miles from Franklin, losing 63 killed and wounded.
During the summer of 1863 fought at Shellyville, Tenn., Elk River,
Tenn., and at Cowan Tenn. then moved into Georgia. Fought at
Lafayette on the 16 Sep. and at the battle of Chickamauga on the 19
and 20th.
During the winter they remained in East Tenn. where most re-
enlisted and receiving the veteran furlough returned from Pa. with
a large number of recruits.
The ninth moved from Louisville to Frankfort Ky. delaying the
guerrilla chief Morgan's force and compelled it to fall back to
Pound Gap. On the 6 Sep. a few miles east of Murfreesborough, it
fought a brigade taking 300 men prisoner.
The regiment then joined General Sherman in Georgia. Fought at
Lovejoy's Ga. on the 16th of Nov. and then at Macon, Ga., Bear
Creek, Waynesborough and at Louisville Ga. at Buck Head Church,
reaching Savannah on the 21 Dec.
A detachment of the Ninth escorted General Sherman when he advanced
to meet General Johnston to arrange terms of surrender. The terms
were agreed on and the war was ended, the Ninth Cavalry was engaged
in the last battle fought east of the Mississippi. They mustered
out on the 18th of Jul 1865.
