S. ROY CAMPBELL, HE WAS MR. mARKELSVILLE!!


S. Roy Campbell, 92, of Juniata Twp., Newport, died Sunday, March 19, 2006 in The Manor at Perry Village, New Bloomfield.

He was born Dec. 19, 1913 in Juniata Twp., a son of John and Margaret (Julius) Campbell.

He was retired from the former Pennsylvania Railroad and a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Markelsville, former president and member for more than 20 years of the Markelsville Cemetery Association, Social Order of Owls, Newport and Lewistown, Perry Valley, Pomona and Community Granges, Pennsylvania State and National Granges, and Newport Fire Company. He was the widower of Annie E. Reeder Campbell.

Surviving are two sons, Oscar W. and Wayne D., and a daughter, Mary Ann Smee, all of Newport; a brother, George P. of Halifax; a sister, Eleanora Fisher of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Smee.

Services were held March 22 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Lewis E. Burgett officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill 17011, or Newport Fire Company, 301 Mulberry St., Newport 17074.
