The house sits on one of the few double lots in Newport. 129 N 2nd - Louise Beard Memorial was built in 1889 by Mr. & Mrs.Horace Beard and was the site of many brillant and festive soiree at the turn of the century. In 1938 the house was bequeathed to the "town's people by Katherine Leiby Howe Beard as a memorial to Louise Beard and is maintained by the Newport Revitalization & Preservation Society. The second floor houses a fascinating museun of Newport memorability from the early 1800s through 1930.
