Methodist Church deicated in 1871. The present edifice was erected in 1904. tHIS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUILDING WAS BUILT IN 1911 . THE ORIGINAL SCHOOL BUILDING ON THIS SITE WAS BUILT IN 1865, NOT INCLUDING THE WINGS ON EITHER SIDE. DURING THE SUMMER OF 1867 SILAS WRIGHT OPENED HIS NORMAL SCHOOL IN THIS BUILDING. ONE WING WAS ADDED IN 1874, AND THE OTHER IN 1888. THE ENTIRE BUILDING WAS RAZED IN MAY 1911 AND DURING THE SUMMER THE PRESENT BUILDING WAS ERECTED. tHIS BUILDING ACCOMMODATED THE FIRST SIX GRADES UNTIL 1969. TODAY THE BUILDING IS AN APARTMENT HOUSE Incarnation United Church of Christ had its beginning in 1820 when it held their services in the old warehouse on Front Street (David Myers Warehouse), next the first Newport Schoolhouse, then the "The Unio Church" on 2nd & Waunt. In 1868 a new church was erected on the present site.  The present brick parsonage next door wass built a few years later. In 1886 it was discovered the foundation structure was weakening. Waltz & Waltz Office was once a bakery run by Jacob and Minnie Burger. They delivered the baked goods door-to-door in a horse and wagon and sold penny candy to children in the school yard caddy corner from their shop N4th1E2.jpg (9911 bytes) N4th1E3.jpg (9922 bytes) N4th1E4.jpg (11617 bytes) N4th1E5.jpg (10872 bytes) N4th1E6.jpg (73298 bytes) 24 N 4th St. is a lovely 2 1/2 story brick Victorian home. The lot was originally owned by Joseph Jones, who sold it to George L. Geiger in 1877, after which it was inherited by Augusta Hartzell. Through subsequent inheritances, it remained in the Fickes family until 1930 at which time it was willed to the Lutheran Church by Ada Ficks.
