CANAL DAY 2008

Newport Revitalization & Preservation Society (NRPS), in conjunction with the Newport Borough Council, are organizing the next annual CANAL DAY on Saturday, October 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each year is a BIG SUCCESS! Second Street will be closed to traffic between Catherine and Dock Streets, where food vendors, local merchants, artisans and crafts people will be displaying their hand made ware on the street

 Newport Canal Day will be held rain or shine. We will be providing entertainment, live music, PCCA demonstrations, and children’s activities. Special Friends will be back!  In addition the LOVE99 van will be there. The day will end with a Newport High School Pep Rally with the Marching Band and cheerleaders. The Louise Beard Memorial Museum will be open for viewing, free of charge from 11 to 1 P.M at 129 N. Second Street. 

This event will be promoted through local newspapers and media. There are 54 spaces available on 2nd Street.. Spaces are approximately 12 feet long and 10 feet deep, at a cost of $25.00 for each space. Please send the application back by August 31, 2008 to ensure a space. Spaces are provided on a first come first serve basis. Tables and chairs are not provided. Confirmation of where your space is will be sent out by September 23. Set up time will be from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. All vehicles must vacant 2nd Avenue by 9:30 a.m.  Parking will be available. In addition to regular festivities, food, and family fun, there will be hourly give-away of gas cards by local merchants.  Turnbaugh's, Super 7 Food Mart, Smith's, and Giant in Newport have all agreed to be sponsors.  Artists, vendors, local businesses and organizations may apply for space on a first come first served basis.  Applications are available at Perry County Council of the Arts (PCCA) Gallery and Carpetbagger Collectibles, on the downtown square, or by downloading the application from Newport Revitalization and Preservation Society (NRPS) website, at www.nrps.pa.net
