STREETSCAPE PROJECT IS COMPLETE!!

The Streetscape Enhancement Plan was the final segment of the huge Borough project, which involves sewer/storm water separation, new water pipes, the complete re-doing of Route 34 (Market Street) from the Juniata River Bridge to the Fourth Street intersection, and  a facelift for Market Street and the Square. Sidewalks have been re-done, crosswalks made more visible and safer, and new curbing installed.  In addition, the overhead wires on the Square have been re-routed and new attractive reproduction lighting was installed.  The islands in the center of the Square have been reconfigured to be more aesthetically pleasing.

The new sidewalks have an outside brick border and these are the bricks that  may be personalized.  NRPS is inviting all interested persons to participate in the Streetscape Project by purchasing a brick to advertise a business, or to honor or memorialize a family member, a friend, an organization  or yourself. The personalized bricks will be installed this Spring.

A great way to support the restoration project in the Square would be to participate in  Newport Revitalization and Preservation Society's (NRPS) Buy-A-Brick program. With the purchase of a personalized brick, residents will become a permanent part of history. The 4 x 8 inch brick is large enough to accommodate three lines of thirteen characters (including spaces and punctuation).  The cost of $50 per brick is tax deductible and any profits will go into additional purchases for the Square, such as benches or planters.   Forms, with a check made payable to NRPS, should be mailed to NRPS,  P.O. Box 13, Newport, 17074.
